Alas, it’s time to say your final farewells to a legend. With over 275 acting credits under his belt, Sir Christopher Lee has passed away at the age of 93. The English-born star is best known for his roles as Dracula in multiple films, Count Dooku in Stars Wars (Episodes II & III), Francisco Scaramanga in one of the James Bond movies and Saruman in the Lord of the Rings franchise.
According to documents obtained by UK’s The Telegraph, the former Flight Lieutenant/war veteran died at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on Sunday, June 7 after suffering heart and respiratory problems.
Upon learning of his passing, family, friends and former colleagues have expressed their condolences, including director Tim Burton, “Christopher has been an enormous inspiration to me my entire life. I had the honor and pleasure to work with him on five films (Sleepy Hollow, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows; all of which also feature Johnny Depp). He was the last of his kind — a true legend — who I’m fortunate to have called a friend. He will continue to inspire me and I’m sure countless others for generations to come.”
Fellow LotR actor Dominic Monaghan, who portrayed fan favorite Merry in the series, also expressed his fond memories about the legend:
So so sorry to hear that #christopherlee has passed away. He was a fascinating person. Threw a bic pen into a tree in front of me.
